The Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Mohammad Iqbal Zia and his wife the Mayoress Mrs Farhat Zia, were guests of Old Albanian Rugby Club at their lunch before the match v Fylde RFC on Saturday. The Rugby Club counts around 800 mini and junior boys and girls and parents among its membership and has helped to develop several to current premiership and international playing standards
At the St Albans Networking themed lunch, sponsored by Clydesdale Bank, the Mayor spoke about his passion for helping local young people and commented.
“Sporting facilities and opportunities can have a hugely positive impact on people’s physical and mental health. I am very grateful for organisations such as the Old Albanians Rugby Football Club that work very hard to promote and encourage sport in the community.”
Also speaking were Harpenden resident David Clarke, former Paralympian soccer player and senior manager at Clydesdale Bank and Chairman of Fylde RFC David Young.
The Mayor and Mayoress then watched the National 1 League Match between Old Albanian and Fylde.
