Hertfordshire Returning Students Festival

Great night for OAs at 10th Hertfordshire Returning Students Festival

Fifty-one ex-OA Colts turned up to play in the 10th annual Hertfordshire Returning Students Festival. Such was the keenness of everyone to play that OAs were able to enter four squads into the festival, which was run in the exciting new format of “cross-pitch-sevens”.
After the round-robin group stages, the top two teams in each group went into the Cup semi-finals, and no fewer than three of the OA team made up the four semi-finalists; with the final being contested between two of the OA teams.

In a keenly fought final, the OA team that was made up predominantly of last season’s u18 Colts came out on top with captain for the night Caswell Sparks (most people’s player of the night) being presented with the Cup.

The fourth OA team came third in their group and went into the ‘Shield’ tournament which they also duly won – winning their own piece of silverware. This team was made up predominantly of the Colts team of 2015-16 with Cristy Jennings being presented with the ‘Shield’.

Even though the teams obviously enjoyed winning some silverware, the real success of the event was in bringing together old team-mates and providing a forum for the club to keep in touch with players whilst they are away at University. If only a small number of these lads end up playing at OAs in their 20’s, then the club will be in very good health.
