Saints Take no PrisonersRomford and Gidea Park has always been a contest up front especially on their own turf! This relentless side in previous seasons have caused problems for the Saints. Although confidence was high after the Lewes match, pre-game disruptions to the starting side could be a potential banana skin once again.
Romford started well getting on the score sheet first from a driving maul several metres from the Saints line, after a couple of penalties the home side scored, Saints appeared to be in the changing rooms mentally 5 – 0 Romford.
The response was quick, although scrappy in parts, as Saints put 35 unanswered points on the board through Kiff, King, Rhodes, Chambers and McKenna, most of these converted by Robertson.
Half time arrived with the Saints leading 35-5 a few clear instructions given during the break.
Romford came out for the second half determined not to makes Saints have an easy afternoon, again scoring after a strong driving maul 35 – 12 Saints.
The second half the followed a similar pattern with several players crossing the line, Kiff for her second and third tries, Kreysa, McKenna for her 2nd, King for number two, Chambers for her second again Robertson converted many for a final score of 71 – 12 Saints.
Head Coach Brown said, “The result was tough on Romford, who made us work hard in spells, their forwards being very competitive, the big difference was when we moved the ball, often creating overlaps and miss-matches. The squad should be happy with the performance, as many things we have been developing were evident. We will need to be sharper in some key areas for the visit of Beckenham in two weeks; however we should be welcoming a few players back from injury, illness and greater availability.”
