Saints, Alive and Kicking!
A few losses recently have disheartened the Saints but they bounced back with a vengeance beating a spirited and organised Lewes side 24-10. The game was a tight battle between both sides, strong attacking lines and graft never stopped on this chilly Sunday afternoon at Woollams!

The restart continued to see Saints pressure the visitors with some good link play, with scum half Gallimore making a break through the middle before a covering tackle stopped the player 6 meters from Lewes’ try line. Quick ball found its way to Kimpton, who crashed over for the score, conversion missed, Saints led 10 – 0
The following restart worked in Saints favour with some good hands and ruck ball leading to McKenna finding space to sprint through for the third score, Abumarzouq added the extras 17 – 0 Saints.
Lewes now fired up, started to create problems for the home defence but to no avail. Finally they away side worked the ball wide for their winger to score, conversion missed Saints led 17 – 5 with a few minutes left of the first half, Lewes pushed for another not could not execute.
Half time Saints 17 – 5 Lewes.
The second half became a tough 40 minutes, as both teams looked for weaknesses in defence, neither side were cracking, until McKenna found space to out-pace the away defence and score for Abumarzouq to convert; 24 – 5 Saints
Lewes were determined to fight back, with some sustained pressure finally finding a hole near the corner for their second try, extras missed 24 – 10 Saints.
As the clock ran down, both teams played some entertaining rugby.
Head Coach Brown said, “The squad felt it had a point to prove after the two previous games, the control and composure showed today which had been missing in those two previous games. Credit to Lewes they are an organised side who made us work hard for the result. Our aim is to finish the season strong and let results take care of themselves”.
