OA Saints — Beckenham Ladies

Saints on a Winning Streak, May it Continue!

As the season draws to a close I’ts without question there have been ups and downs! Personnel changes within some teams of Championship SE 2 have dented sides, meaning teams like Beckenham who used to be strong rivals have suffered and are no longer a threat. The visitors arrived early and started the game on the front foot, causing the Saints defence to be alert from the first play. Pressure continued to build, as Beckenham pressed for an early score. However Saints won the ball near their own try line, some quick passes followed as the ball found its way to McKenna on the left wing, she opened the burners to score an impressive 95 meter try, converted by Robertson. 7 – 0 Saints led.

A fired up Beckenham came straight back at Saints, who again held firm. Visitors were losing their shape, which gave the home side a chance to open up. Further first half scores by Finn, King and another McKenna try gave the Saints a healthy 24 – 0 half time lead.

Second half started similar to the first,  with Beckenham making Saints work hard defensively until some good hands saw David race through the middle for a try. Followed by McKenna’s third then a driving maul led to Skelton adding another. Final score Saints 41 – 0 Beckenham. With three consecutive wins in a row there is still a chance of winning that league title.

Head Coach Brown said, “A fantastic team performance, the players are working hard for each other. The coaching team and I are always looking to challenge the squad this is getting tougher, as they are developing rapidly. We still have a way to go before hitting the consistent 80-minute performance, we are getting closer. Beckenham are a well-coached side, so for the squad to shut them out, is a massive statement”.
