Finsbury Park 2ndXV — Grizzlies

Match Report

An epic defensive display sees the Grizzlies come away with a well earned draw

The away fixture to Finsbury park ended up being a difficult one not only because of the physical nature of the game but also it seemed a difficult place for the Grizzlies to find!?
What a hard game of Rugby! The Grizzlies made it even harder for themselves by turning up late and starting the game will 14. Finsbury Park’s 19 man squad warmed up and started the game with some big hits and the pressure was to be increased on the Grizzlies when going down to 13 because the big hearted Darren Ead got sent to the bin for 10mins for his 90th time in his rugby career.

The Grizzlies didn’t let this affect their play and scored first after a quick turn over saw George Middleton in for his first of 3 trys. With the amount of ball Finsbury Park had, it was to be too much to stop the flow of points late in the first half. This took it’s toll on the Grizzlies but it was some good counter play that keeped them in the game with tries from Jeff Ninalga and Joe Priestman Bennett. The score at half time (31-19).

Finsbury Park forwards had good continuity with a high number of phases keeping the Grizzlies on their toes. Some regrouping and 3 more Grizzlies turning up meant we could start the second half with a full complement. A big rallying call from Carl Lavin at half time seemed to do the trick and this really lifted the team and it was with some fantastic Grizzlies spirit that saw them claw their way back into the game with Stu Williams controlling things around the park.
The team defended amazingly with every man putting their bodies on the line and making big tackles and stopping the Finsbury park backline making any ground. 10 mins to go the Grizzlies levelled with George Middleton’s 3rd try. It was the defence again from the Grizzlies that seemed to be so strong holding Finsbury Park out for the last 5mins in there own 22.

“MoM” went to George Middleton with his hat-trick hero status.
“Chris of the Day” went to Darren Ead for being sent off (Again) just a few minutes into the match.

Trys: George Middleton 3,Joe PD, Jeff Ninalga
3/5 kicks: Robin Bye.
